  7. journal published by Wiley (D. Comer, R. Droms, D. Estrin, and L.
  8. Svobodova are the Editors).

  10. In the first three issues of 1992 there are several papers of interest
  11. to the ISOC community.
  12.  
  13. "An Empirical Workload Model for Driving Wide--Area TCP/IP Network
  14. Simulation", by P. B. Danzig, S. Jamin, R. Caceres, D. J. Mitzel, and
  15. D. Estrin (Volume 3, Number 1 (March 1992)), presents a workload model
  16. of internet traffic that can be used to drive simulation experiments.
  17. The model is based on analysis of wide-area TCP/IP traffic collected
  18. at several Internet sites.

  20. "An Implementation of the Revised Internet Stream Protocol (ST--2)",
  21. by C. Partridge, and S. Pink, (Volume 3, Number 1 (March 1992)),
  22. describes an experimental implementation of the ST-2 protocol in the
  23. BSD UNIX (TM) system.  ST-2 was designed to support applications that
  24. require guaranteed network services by creating tree-shaped delivery
  25. paths with performance guarantees.

  27. "The EAN X.500 Directory Service" by G. Neufeld, B. Brachman, M.
  28. Goldberg, and D. Stickings, (Volume 3, Number 2 (June 1992)), describes
  29. experiences gained in implementing an OSI X.500 directory service.  It
  30. points out a number of areas in the current OSI directory design that
  31. require further work and then describes how the EAN directory system
  32. has addressed these difficulties.

  34. "Myths about Congestion Management in High Speed Networks", by R.
  35. Jain, (Volume 3, Number 3 (September 1992)), is a position paper
  36. addressing addressing central issues in congestion control and
  37. avoidance for high-speed networks.

  39. "On Traffic Phase Effects in Packet--Switched Gateways", by S. Floyd,
  40. and V.  Jacobsen, (Volume 3, Number 3 (September 1992)), describe how
  41. phase differences between competing traffic streams in a
  42. packet-switched network can be the dominant factor in relative
  43. throughput.  They demonstrate how this discrimination can be
  44. eliminated with the addition of appropriate randomization to the
  45. network.

  47. We are planning two special issues for 1993.  The first special issue
  48. on "Networking Support for Remote Conferencing" will focus on issues
  49. and experiences such as multicast protocols for remote conferencing,
  50. service requirements for remote conferencing data delivery and
  51. experiences with remote conferencing systems.  The second special
  52. issue on "Dynamic Internetwork Architectures" will concentrate on
  53. issues such as addressing schemes for mobile hosts, routing in dynamic
  54. internet architectures and resource discovery and utilization by
